Hey everyone! I'm new to this community and could use some help. I just got my hands on about five avocado pits. I've seen a few tutorials on how to grow them, but I don't have any paper towels or a store nearby to get some. Is there any other material I could use, like a cloth or something similar, to follow the steps in the videos?

You’re on the right track with those avocado pits! Instead of using a paper towel, you can just stick three toothpicks into the pit, about halfway up. Then, balance it over a glass or jar of water with the toothpicks resting on the rim. This way, the bottom part of the pit stays in the water while the top half is exposed. You should see roots start to develop in about 2 to 6 weeks! Just an FYI, though – if you’re hoping for fruit, it takes quite a while, usually about 10-15 years for the plant to produce avocado.
Um, yes they are. The pit is what it is called when discussing the fruit as a culinary item. But the proper botanical term for an avocado pit is "seed." They're the same thing.
Totally get you! Many folks have success by picking a well-shaped fruit they like, taking out the pit, and poking four toothpicks into it around the center. Then, just submerge it halfway in a sunny glass of water. Once it sprouts enough, you can plant it in some soil. Just know that the offspring might not look like the original fruit, so if you want reliable results, getting a grafted sapling is usually a better bet!
This is not correct, best advice, OP, is to buy a grafted sapling of known variety. Otherwise, you'll spend years growing something only to potentially find out that it's either sterile or produces terrible fruit.

I meant pit yes. Sorry about that!
