How Can I Hack a Talking Clock to Change Its Messages?

I recently got a talking analog clock that announces the time on the hour—kind of like that Audubon bird clock, but not as nice. I'm curious if there's a way to hack it and change what it says. Any tips on where to begin?

Honestly, it’s unlikely that the processor in your clock can be reprogrammed. Your best bet would probably be to replace the entire electronic system that generates the speech. You'd need to figure out how it connects with the clock mechanism too, which could be a hassle. Might be a tough road ahead!

Yeah, I get that. I got it for just $10 on clearance, so I guess I can't expect too much from it.

You might want to look into replacing the clock's talking circuit board with a small MP3 player instead. That could give you the flexibility to customize the messages you want it to say! Check out options online—DFRobot has some cool stuff.
