How Can I Improve the Cleanliness of My Kitchen Floor Tiles?

Last year, we replaced the floor tiles in our kitchen with ceramic ones. I warned my wife that these tiles might be tough to keep clean, and unfortunately, that turned out to be true. Right now we can't afford to replace them, plus my wife really likes their color and pattern. I've heard of painting floor tiles, but I'm curious if it's possible to use polyurethane on them instead?

Yes, you can use polyurethane on tiles, but it might not be the best choice. Polyurethane is softer than ceramic, which means it can trap dirt under a plastic layer. So, if you do go this route, just know you might end up with dirt stuck in there.

You might consider applying a tile sealant or wax like Mop & Glo. That way, it can help create a barrier against dirt. Another option is investing in a robotic vacuum with a mopping feature. It’ll keep the tiles cleaner with minimal effort on your part!

The issue with keeping ceramic tiles clean often comes from their porosity, which can trap dirt and grime. If your tiles have a texture, they can be even harder to clean since dust clings to the grooves. Have you thought about using a sealant? It can help make the surface less porous and reduce the dirt buildup.
