How Can I Improve the Grip on My New Barbell?

Asked By User1234!@ On

I just bought a barbell for weightlifting, but it's really slippery, and the knurling isn't great. Is there anything I can use to make it easier to hold, like duct tape or Gorilla tape? Or is there a specific type of tape that's better for grip? I'm not very handy, so any help would be appreciated!

Instead of tape, try magnesium carbonate chalk or even liquid chalk! They work wonders for grip. Also, if you're doing deadlifts, techniques like the over-under grip or hook grip can give you better control without tweaks to the bar itself.

Hockey stick tape could work for improving grip, but I've heard it can get gummy. Bike handlebar tape might be a better alternative since it tends to stay cleaner and offers solid traction.

You might want to consider using lifting gloves to get a better grip. They can really help with slippery bars!
