I got what you mean about the seal! A good tip would be to grab some 9x11 sandpaper sheets and glue them to a flat piece of MDF. Start by removing the hinges, then sand the seal side with the flat sanding block to make that edge nice and crisp. It should help a lot with closing gaps!
