I'm working on creating a briefcase-like item for Dungeons and Dragons, but I'm struggling with getting a nice, tight seal without any large gaps where it opens and closes. Does anyone have suggestions or techniques to achieve a cleaner finish? I'm happy to share photos of my current progress if needed!

I got what you mean about the seal! A good tip would be to grab some 9x11 sandpaper sheets and glue them to a flat piece of MDF. Start by removing the hinges, then sand the seal side with the flat sanding block to make that edge nice and crisp. It should help a lot with closing gaps!
It sounds like you’re asking about the joint where two pieces of wood meet. The simplest fix would be to use clamps to hold them together while the glue dries. If you're looking for a more professional finish, consider investing in a jointer. If you’ve already glued it but still see gaps, try applying some more glue in those spaces and sand it down while it's still wet. This will mix with the sawdust and fill those voids nicely!
