How Can I Insulate My Bedroom’s Outside Walls?

Asked By CleverMonkey99 On

I recently discovered that my bedroom's outside walls are completely lacking insulation, and it's making the room really uncomfortable temperature-wise. What steps should I take to remedy this situation? Should I go the route of tearing down the drywall to install traditional insulation, or is there a spray insulation option that I could consider?

You can actually rent an Owens Corning insulation blower from Home Depot. It’s not as tough as it sounds! Just use a hole saw to create roughly 4-inch holes between the studs, blow in insulation until it’s full, and then patch those holes with the circular pieces of drywall. I did this in my garage, and honestly, it’s way easier than ripping out drywall. Just a heads up, the hardest part is making the drywall look smooth again after patching.

If you’re thinking about wiring things like Ethernet, it's a good idea to run conduit first and maybe drop a string in there too for future upgrades. Just make sure you secure everything before insulating!

If you’re considering insulation, I’d definitely recommend also looking into the attic since that’s where a lot of heat escapes! Maybe hang some tapestries on the walls for added soundproofing and warmth.
