How Can I Keep Bugs Out of My Conservatory?

Asked By NatureLover92 On

I'm looking for advice on how to prevent bugs from coming into my conservatory. Whenever I open the doors to let fresh air in, I notice that within about ten minutes, they're swarming with bugs—like 50 to 100 of them! I don't mind them being there, but many seem to get trapped and die, which makes me feel guilty. We live near a wooded area, so I wonder if that's contributing to the problem. I've tried using citronella candles and placing cloves in lemon slices to deter them, but no success. I'm considering getting a cover for the door while it's open, but I'd love to hear if anyone has found other effective solutions!

We use some sheer, draping curtains that let air flow but still block some bugs. It doesn't stop all of them, but they do help a bit with keeping the majority out and add a nice look to the space.

Installing a fly screen seems to be a solid option. They can be lightweight and easily attached to your door frame, letting air in while keeping the bugs out.

Definitely agree! I know someone who uses a mesh frame held by magnets on their UPVC doors, and it works great for them.

I got a magnetic mesh curtain for my door, and it's been really effective at keeping bugs out without being too intrusive. I highly recommend it!
