How Can I Keep Foxes Out of My Garden?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some help on how to deter foxes from wreaking havoc in my garden. We live in Dublin, and it feels like we have a lot of foxes around—I've counted at least 5 or 6! Our house is at the end of the terrace, and it seems like they've claimed our garden as their main entry point into the estate.

I know many people think foxes are cute and harmless, but they leave behind a ton of droppings every day, and worse, they've chewed through wires in several cars in our neighborhood, leading to some expensive repairs.

I've tried all sorts of things to keep them away: pepper, different vinegars, chili flakes, even human urine ?‍♂️, but nothing seems to deter them; if anything, I see more droppings! I've also put up wall spikes, but they just leap over from the neighbor's shed.

We have pets—our cat and dog—so I'm hesitant to use ultrasonic devices, as they could affect them too. Plus, I have an 18-month-old son who can't safely play outside with all the mess. If anyone has tips or methods that actually work to get rid of foxes, I'd really appreciate your advice!

An electric fence is a solid option if you're really having trouble with foxes. It creates a strong barrier that they won't want to cross. You might also want to reach out to pest control for other solutions—they have a bunch of tricks up their sleeve to handle these kinds of issues. Just make sure whatever you do won’t bother your pets!

You might want to consider that if the wires in your cars are getting chewed, it's more likely to be squirrels, as foxes are generally too big to reach them. But they can still be a nuisance! Keeping your yard tidy and reducing food sources like pet food can help.

Also, I've heard a lot of success with electric fencing or calling a pest control service if things get out of hand. They can set up traps or barriers to help. Good luck!
