I'm looking for effective ways to manage Japanese beetles in my garden, particularly since they're starting to show up here in Illinois. I've heard about using soapy water to drown them, but how well does that actually work? Any other tips or strategies would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to try milky spore if you haven't already. I'm using it for the first time this year, and I'm hopeful it will make a difference! It helps control the larvae in the soil.
I’ve had luck using kaolin clay (Surround WP) for the past three years. It really helps keep them at bay on my plants. I also use milky spore, but it’s most effective if others in your area are using it too since those beetles can travel quite far! Mostly, I use it to protect my grass from larval damage.

That sounds interesting! I’ve never tried kaolin clay before. Do you apply it before or after they start appearing?
