How Can I Keep Mosquitoes Out of My Water Butt?

Asked By CuriousGardener42 On

I'm looking for effective ways to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in my new water butt that I just got from Aldi. I'm considering using a mesh cover for the top, but I'm unsure how well that will work. Anyone have some tested methods or tips? Thanks in advance!

I’ve got a water butt too, and covering it with fly mesh was a game changer for me! I found some on Amazon, just tied it around the rim with string and it really cuts down on the mosquito problem. Definitely worth trying!

That's smart! I usually just keep the lid on mine, but I like the idea of the mesh for extra protection.

I keep my water butt closed and add a bit of washing up liquid every now and then. It helps create a barrier to deter mosquitoes. Plus, using the water regularly limits their breeding time!

I love that idea! Very resourceful and it keeps the water fresh.
