I'm currently 5 months pregnant and my husband is in the middle of installing a new kitchen sink. The new sink is slightly larger, and he's worried that cutting too much from the countertop might leave the cabinet without enough support for the doors. Since we won't have doors on the cabinet, I'm concerned about how to keep our baby safe and out of there. A curtain doesn't feel secure enough for me. Any suggestions? We're also considering a gate, but the entryway into our kitchen is around 4-5 feet wide, which makes that tricky.

One option could be to add a cross piece across the top of the cabinet. You can fasten it to the sides from the inside using pocket hole screws. If you want to go the extra mile, consider getting new cabinet doors made to fit the new, smaller opening, or you could trim the old ones, although that might not look perfect. Baby safety should definitely come first!
Honestly, you could go to the extreme and use something like barbed wire — just kidding! But seriously, safety definitely comes first. Maybe look into some baby-proofing options specifically for under the sink, since that area has pipes and other hazards.
I've dealt with this before! We just moved anything dangerous up high or to another area in our home. Kids do get into cabinets, but after a while, they tend to either lose interest or make a little hiding spot — which isn't ideal but manageable. Just be sure the lower cabinets are secured or stocked with safe items.
