How can I keep my bathroom door partially closed but still fully operable?

I have a bathroom door that's awkwardly placed. From the dining room, it directly exposes the toilet when the door is wide open. The door is balanced perfectly, staying in whatever position it's left in. If someone leaves it wide open, it can be pretty uncomfortable for diners.

I'm looking for a solution that would allow the door to automatically close around 75-80% when not in use, but still be easily pushable to fully open or close when someone needs privacy. Essentially, I need a mechanism that:

* Lets people fully open the door when entering,
* Allows locking when the facilities are occupied, and
* Keeps the door mostly closed when unoccupied, so others can quickly see if the bathroom is in use without a full view of the toilet.

Could adjustable spring-loaded hinges work for this? Can a pneumatic door closer be adjusted to achieve what I need? I would deeply appreciate any insights—I'll be forever grateful!

I have similar auto-close hinges on my doors. You can adjust them, and they close most of the way but aren’t obtrusive. You might want to check out those options—you’ll love the convenience!

You can definitely look into adjustable auto door closing hinges. They’re super handy and let you set how hard they close, so you can get that sweet spot where it doesn’t shut all the way but still keeps privacy in mind. They work great for any door you might want to auto-close too!

There are some simple solutions too, like using a coil spring that pushes the door closed to a specified point. Just search for something like 'Automatic Door Closer, Zinc Alloy Safety Spring Door Closer Adjustable' online—it’s pretty affordable!

But why not just keep the door closed all the time? Isn’t that easier?
