Hey everyone! I'm a long-time reader but this is my first time posting. My cats keep wanting to come in and out of the bedroom at night, and I'm trying to figure out a way to let them open the door but still have it mostly closed afterward. I'm thinking something along the lines of a hook and eye mechanism that uses a spring to pull the door back closed after they pass through. I really want to avoid those cheap plastic solutions out there, and a traditional hook and eye would leave the door too ajar when not in use. Plus, installing a cat door isn't an option due to the door type we have. Any suggestions on how I can make this work?

You could look into self-closing hinges! They might be a great fit for your situation since they allow the door to close automatically after your cats go through. Might solve your problem without needing any complicated setups.
