How Can I Keep My Freezer Door Sealed Tight?

Hey everyone, I have an upright freezer, and I'm having issues with the bottom of the door not closing completely. I already changed the seal, but I suspect the door might be a bit warped because it opens up just a crack. This has been causing ice buildup and leaks, which isn't ideal.

I'm thinking about using bungee cords or a long strap around the freezer, but I'm worried it might become a hassle when I need to open it several times a day.

I also considered installing a latch similar to what you'd find on a Yeti cooler, but I'm unsure how to attach it since the door is smooth and the side is rough. Strong tape or glue might not hold under pressure.

Could I bolt something to it instead? The inside of the door can be unscrewed, but I'm not sure about the side. Would sheet metal screws be enough, or is there something I need to be cautious about damaging?

Thanks for any help!

You could try using one of those stick-on strap latches designed for baby-proofing. They're super easy to install and only cost about $17 on Amazon. I've got them on all my fridges and freezers to keep my special needs kiddo from raiding our food at night!

First, make sure your freezer is level. Sometimes a slight tilt can cause the door to misalign. Use a level to check, and if it's off, adjust the feet or add some thin wood pieces to make it perfectly level. You might have to give the door a good twist to align it better—definitely worth a shot!

If the door closes well when you push it, you might want to consider using some strong magnets. You could attach magnets to both the door and the frame, which can help create a better seal when closed. It's a simple fix that might save you a lot of hassle!

Have you checked the hinges? If they’re loose, tightening them may help with the door alignment. I had a similar issue with a mini fridge where the door started sagging; a bit of tinkering with the hinges did wonders!
