I usually don't mind the neighborhood cat visiting my yard since it helps with the rodent problem. However, it seems to have taken a liking to my flowerbed, and now the area around my impatiens is flattened because of it. I'm looking for effective but simple solutions to deter the cat from making my flowerbed its new hideout. I've heard mixed reviews about ultrasonic repellers and am curious about other methods, such as scents that cats dislike or commercial repellents. Any advice? Thanks!

An unusual but effective method is to use carpet protectors with the spikes facing up. It won't hurt the cat, but it's definitely uncomfortable for them to walk on. Just cut it to fit your flowerbed and that should help keep the curious kitties away!
To keep cats out of your garden, try using a mix of different deterrents. Strong scents like citrus peels, coffee grounds, and essential oils such as lavender, rosemary, and peppermint can be effective. You could also create physical barriers using chicken wire or plastic netting. Plus, consider planting cat-repelling plants like rue or Coleus canina for extra protection!
If you're around, you could try scaring the cat away using a CO2-powered BB gun. It won’t seriously hurt the cat from a distance, but it works great to startle them off your property—just be cautious and make sure someone is home to supervise when you do it!
Consider setting up a motion-activated sprinkler. It's a harmless way to surprise any critters that wander too close to the flowerbed without you even having to be around!
Chopsticks can be a surprisingly effective deterrent! Stick a bunch of disposable wooden chopsticks throughout your flowerbed. It makes it hard for the cat to settle on your plants, and it worked really well for me to keep animals out!
