I just purchased my first home at 23, and I absolutely love it, even though it's from the 50s. One issue I'm facing is with the steel casement windows, which let in a ton of heat here in Phoenix. Unfortunately, I can't afford to replace them right now. Does anyone have suggestions on how to reduce the heat coming in through these windows?

Insulated drapes can really make a difference as well. They not only help keep the heat out but also add some style to your home.
Have you thought about using solar shades or outdoor shutters? My aunt has them in Chandler, and they work like a charm to block out the sun from the outside!
You could grab some foam board insulation, cut it to fit, and wedge it into any gaps. It can help block out some of the heat effectively!
I tinted my windows and added blackout curtains, and it made a huge difference in temperature. Definitely worth considering!
I dealt with something similar! My cheap metal casement windows were hollow inside, so I unscrewed the handle and stuffed some fiberglass insulation in there. Just be careful not to pack it too tightly, or the window won't function right. For added protection in winter, I put plastic window film over them which worked wonders. It's not perfect, but it helps!
