Hey everyone! I'm a new gardener, and this year I've got a family of cute but incredibly persistent rabbits that have taken a liking to my zinnias. It's surprising since I thought their texture would turn them off. I'm considering planting some lettuces and greens to distract them from my flowers—do you think that would work? I've tried covering the flowers, but these little guys just won't give up! Any tips?

It varies a lot with rabbits. Mine ignore zinnias but will destroy my lilies! Sometimes they chomp just for fun and leave the plants. I'd say give the bunnies some options, but keep in mind they might be back to your flowers in no time!
Yeah, just be careful; they might end up eating both your zinnias and the greens. Rabbits can be quite opportunistic when it comes to food!
I've had some success with sacrificial planting! This year, I scattered white clover around my beds, and it’s really helped. I also toss some cheap lettuce seeds from discount stores into my flower beds—gives the rabbits a snack, plus I can munch on the lettuce while gardening. I'd even suggest adding a birdbath since I've noticed it decreases nibbling on my tomatoes.

That's so true! I didn’t realize they could just be playing with my plants.
