I've set up a 30x20 garden and invested in some fencing and ultrasonic deterrents to keep animals away. I've got a 24" high galvanized metal fence with 1/4" holes, going 12" underground, plus a larger wire fence around the outer perimeter. Recently, I saw on my Ring camera that raccoons are climbing onto my porches, and I'm worried they might damage my garden. How effective are the ultrasonic devices against raccoons? Any suggestions for keeping them and other critters off my property and out of my garden? I'm not interested in traps or lethal methods, but any natural repellents or other deterrents would be great!

An electric fence could be a game-changer! Set up a single strand about 8-10 inches high, especially since raccoons can climb. Just keep in mind to educate your kids on safety around it. I've had success with this against a whole variety of critters, including squirrels, raccoons, and even deer!
To keep raccoons at bay, consider adding a top layer over your garden made from secure fencing to prevent climbing. The key is to ensure there are no gaps! It really depends on what you're growing, though; sometimes raccoons won’t bother if there are better food options elsewhere. And if you’re putting out pet food on porches, they might keep coming back for that. Just remember to remove food sources! Ultrasonic devices don’t tend to work well, so I’d recommend looking into other solutions. And funny enough, it might just work itself out if they're not the main problem.
