I've been having a persistent problem with a squirrel on my second-floor balcony. It's digging in my potted plants even when there's no food. I've tried wrapping one pot with a fence, but the squirrel just knocks it down. I want to deter him without harming him. Are there any flowers squirrels dislike? Do those sparkly wind spinners work as a deterrent?

Have you thought about getting a cat? They can be great at scaring off squirrels! Just a thought!
Same here! A guard cat would be perfect, but allergies are a bummer.
It sounds like the squirrel might be burying nuts. A good option could be to use fine mesh netting under the soil to keep the squirrel away without spoiling your garden's aesthetic. Plus, plants can grow right through it! I’ve also found that hanging sun catchers or shiny objects can help deter them. You can pick those up at dollar stores, and they might even double as cute decorations on your balcony! Good luck, I hope you manage to keep him at bay!
When I was a kid, my dad tried everything to fend off squirrels from our bird feeder. He even resorted to using Vaseline on the pole to make it slippery! The squirrels would take a leap and just slide back down. After a while, they got used to it. You might want to try adding garlic around your plants, though. I've found they avoid garlic, and it seems to work since my garlic plants are untouched!
That sounds like a classic dad move! I can't try Vaseline since they jump up from the first-floor fence to my balcony, but the garlic trick sounds promising!
Garlic works wonders! You could also sprinkle some around your pots and see if it helps.
Ha, I’d love a cat, but I’m allergic!
