How Can I Keep Track of My Well Water Levels?

Hey folks! I'm new to this whole home improvement thing and I'm really excited because my girlfriend and I are about to close on our first house. However, I'm a bit anxious about something. We live in Canada, and a lot of areas are facing moderate to severe droughts, which is worrying since our new place will rely on a well and septic system. I've heard stories about wells running dry, and I want to find a way to monitor the water levels in our well to prevent any issues before it gets too low. Does anyone have suggestions or systems for keeping tabs on well water levels? I know it's not super common, but with the way things are going, I want to be prepared!

Uh, honestly, I don’t think it’s necessary. Lots of wells work fine without any monitoring.

I appreciate your input! Just wondering if there's a specific reason you think that way?

There are a few options for monitoring your well water levels, depending on your budget. 1. **Pressure transducer**: This is a more expensive choice, running over $1000, but it automatically records water levels at set intervals. It's a bit much if you're just starting out and don’t want complicated software. 2. **Electronic water level meter**: Expect to spend a few hundred bucks on this. It's basically a tape measure that beeps when it touches the water, making it pretty user-friendly. 3. **Steel tape and chalk**: This is the most affordable option, but it requires some know-how. Just remember to sanitize anything you put down the well!

You could also think about a DIY setup using a float and a distance measuring tool. It would require some modification, but you could get it to record data! Just keep in mind you'll need the right tools for that.
