How Can I Level Settled Ground on a Budget as a New Homeowner?

Asked By HomeSweetHome123 On

I recently became a homeowner and discovered that the ground on one side of my house has settled significantly. As a result, my plants there are sinking and leaning, creating a noticeable slope away from the house. Since I'm pretty new to both homeownership and gardening, I'm looking for advice on affordable, DIY methods to level this area before I start planting anything else, especially to protect my foundation. Any practical tips would be appreciated!

Since you’re new to all this, I suggest reaching out to a few local landscaping services. They can assess your situation and give you an estimate. This way, you can weigh whether it’s a job you feel comfortable tackling yourself or if you’d rather let the pros handle it. Sometimes paying a little more means saving yourself a lot of hassle later on!

That's a sensible suggestion, thanks for the insight!

It’s great that you noticed the settling! Sloping away from the house is actually ideal; it helps with drainage. If you want a quick fix, you could add topsoil to build up the area where the plants are sinking. Just make sure to pack it down a bit so it doesn’t settle again. You might want to check your local garden center for budget options on soil, too!

That sounds like a solid plan! Just make sure you're not burying the roots too deep.
