I'm looking for advice on how to make a shower stall more accessible for my friend who has a degenerative disease that makes it hard for him to lift his legs. The threshold is currently about 5-6 inches high, which poses a challenge for him. I'm considering removing the aluminum door and cutting down the height of the threshold to about 2 inches. I would then reattach everything afterward. Does this plan sound feasible, or are there better solutions?

Another option is to consider a transfer chair or bench. It might provide a safer and easier way for your friend to get in and out of the shower without needing to modify the existing structure.
Have you thought about using a rubber threshold instead? I saw it on a home improvement show a while back, and it looked like a good solution for accessibility without risking water damage. It could be a simple fix that doesn't involve cutting anything down.
It might not be a good idea to cut down the threshold like that. Doing so can jeopardize the waterproofing of the curb, which could lead to water damage below the shower. So, if you go through with this idea, be very careful about maintaining that waterproof seal. Just a suggestion!
