Hey everyone! I just got a motorcycle that has additional headlights which I can turn on and off via a switch on the handlebar. I've been thinking about making them blink so I can be more visible while lane splitting, which is allowed here. I'm aiming to use a 3-way switch: one position to turn on the headlights and another to make them blink. I'm completely new to electronics and would appreciate any advice on what I need to buy or if there's a simple wiring diagram available. Thanks!

First off, how powerful are your headlights and how are they currently wired? You'll probably need a 12V flasher relay, something like the one from Jaycar, and a suitable 3-position switch to make it all work. Just double-check your wiring to make sure everything is safe!
You might want to try searching for 'motorcycle headlight modulator' on Amazon, but be cautious – flashing lights can be risky. Personally, I'd rely more on defensive driving than flashy lights. Some bikers think 'loud pipes save lives,' but it can lead to distractions. Have you thought about using dedicated turn signal lights instead? They can be a much safer option for visibility.

Totally agree! A strobing headlight can be distracting and even hazardous for others, especially those with epilepsy. It’s probably why those setups are illegal in some places.
I would steer clear of a big flashing light as they can really distract drivers. A better approach might be to use an Arduino with a MOSFET, or even set up a commercially available flasher relay instead.
If your lights are 12V and don’t draw too much current, the relay and switch setup sounds solid. Just make sure to verify the wiring path before you dive in!
