I'm moving my microschool into a classroom in a building that's over 100 years old, and it has these classic slate chalkboards. Unfortunately, they're not very useful for me since they're not magnetic or anything. I'm looking for the best way to make them magnetic—should I use paint, sheet metal, or something else? Any creative ideas would be greatly appreciated!

One option you might consider is using magnetic whiteboard covers, which you can buy in large sheets. They would stick right over your chalkboard and give you a magnetic surface for hanging materials. I've seen some good ones on sites like Amazon, so it's worth checking out!
Do you really need them to be magnetic? I mean, it's a chalkboard—writing on it with chalk could be just as effective, right?

I get that, but since it's all the wall space I have, being magnetic would make it way easier to hang up stuff like notes and assignments.
