How Can I Make My Raw Concrete Floor Easier to Mop?

I've recently moved back in with my parents and live in their basement, which currently has raw concrete flooring since they took out the carpet. They're planning to install flooring soon, but there's no timeline for that yet. My concern is that it's a walk-out basement and I have dogs that track in mud, which is a pain to clean up. I do have some rugs, but mud still seems to get everywhere, especially during the spring.

While I wait for proper flooring, I'm looking for suggestions on how to protect the concrete and make mopping it easier in the meantime. I was considering painting it, but I'm unsure. Also, the concrete absorbs my mop water really fast, though I don't know if that's typical. I'm located in Canada, which might limit some of the products available. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

To deal with that raw concrete, you'll definitely want to seal it since concrete is super porous. There are a bunch of sealers at hardware stores, but just remember, it takes a good amount of prep work and clean-up between coats.
