I'm planning to use OSB I have lying around to build a case for my vinyl records. I want to make it functional and safe for indoor use, but I need to keep costs low. If I slather the finished project in polyurethane, will that help reduce splintering? It doesn't need to be the prettiest project, just usable. What tips do you have for finishing OSB?

OSB can actually look pretty cool in an industrial style if you finish it right. I recommend giving it a good belt sand first, then blowing off any dust with compressed air. A few coats of a hard clear finish will make it less splintery and improve the look! Don't forget to chamfer the edges; it really helps in avoiding splinters.

Totally agree! Chamfering the edges makes a big difference. It’s like how they do with plywood.
