How can I measure the power consumption of incandescent and LED bulbs for a science project?

Hey everyone! My son is working on a science fair project where he needs to measure the power consumption of both an incandescent and an LED light bulb. Unfortunately, I can't find a Kill-a-Watt meter anywhere in our city in Canada. Does anyone have suggestions on how we might accomplish this measurement without that tool?

If you're open to alternative methods, using a smart socket with a lamp can be really helpful. Alternatively, a clamp meter also works great for measuring the power consumption if you have one on hand.

Honestly, no one seems to mention it, but you could use a series resistor with a simple voltage meter. Just be careful since it can be dangerous, but hey, it’s for science!

You can find watt-hour meters on Amazon for about 20 to 30 bucks. They have both cumulative and resetting types, which could work perfectly for your project!
