How Can I Prevent Paint from Bleeding Under Tape on an Accent Wall?

I just painted an accent wall in my kids' rooms, but I've run into an issue. The paint seeped under the masking tape because of the wall texture, leaving me with some touch-up work between the accent wall and the white ceiling. I tried free-handing one edge and it turned out okay, but there are still areas in need of a touch-up, especially where I bumped the opposite wall. I even attempted to use a metal paint guide, but it wasn't flexible enough for the textured wall. Any suggestions on how I can improve this next time?

A handy tip is to pull the tape off while the paint is still wet! This can help prevent any peeling or uneven lines. Also, many pro painters skip the tape altogether and just 'cut in' with a steady hand, as they know how to get straight lines without it. It's worth practicing if you can!

I agree! Taping can mess with textured surfaces, plus it saves time once you get the hang of it.

Sounds like you might be applying too much paint at once; less is more when it comes to edges and textures. A smaller brush can help give you more control, too, and just take your time with it!

If your ceiling has texture and your wall is smooth, try running a flat head screwdriver along the edge of the ceiling first. When you paint, get your brush close but not too close. Any excess paint will fall into the groove you created, giving you a clean line!
