Hey everyone! I live in East Texas and recently had a pest control company offer a free termite inspection. They said my house is clear, but one of my neighbors has termites, so they've suggested I take some preventive measures. My house is only about four years old and was supposedly treated for termites during construction. The company recommended installing wooden stakes with pesticide around my home, but the quote came back at a whopping $3,200! Given my background in oil & gas, I'm wondering if I could buy and install these wooden stakes myself instead. What do you think?

Totally get your concern! I had a termite issue last year, and it was a nightmare. I ended up installing a Sentricon system since I had Formosan termites, and it cost around $3,200 for my 2,400 sqft house. You might want to check if your neighbor's termites are the same type, and also see if there are built-in protection systems in newer homes like yours. They can be hidden!
That price sounds really high! My experience in Texas is that after six years, I had to get bait stations to continue termite protection for just $500-$600, which also included a yearly warranty. Definitely get some more quotes before you decide!
Yes, you can absolutely buy those stakes yourself and install them! Just make sure you’re getting the right type that professionals use, and it might be a good idea to set a reminder to check them regularly for effectiveness.

Oh yeah, my house has those built-in tubes! Thanks for the heads-up!
