How Can I Properly Adjust My Yard to Prevent Water Damage?

Hey everyone, I need some advice on landscaping around my house. My neighbor's driveway is significantly higher than the base of my house—about 8 to 12 inches higher and only 7 to 8 feet away. I'm thinking of adding a lot of dirt from my yard towards their driveway to create a slope. Ideally, I'd like the lowest point to be around 3 to 5 feet from my house. My primary concern is whether this will be enough to avoid water damage on that side of the house. I've got a crawl space with a concrete base and siding on top. To add to my caution, no photos because I want to keep things private. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I’d be careful with what you’re planning! By just piling dirt, you might unintentionally direct water towards your house instead of away from it. Instead, consider building a dry-stacked retaining wall to help level out the area. You can also install a French drain to manage the water better. Keeping the drainage in mind is super important to protect your home!

How would that slope cause issues? I thought creating a raised area would push water away from my house. Can you explain a bit more?
