Hey everyone! I recently bought a house that looked like it was set up for a TV mount, but I'm a bit lost on how to actually hang my TV. I tried using the same mounting method from my last place, but when I push the wall-rated cord into the wall, it doesn't go anywhere. I looked behind the wall and found some wood blocking the cord from dropping down to the second hole. There's also a black cord running vertically through the wood, and I'm starting to think the previous owners just made it look TV-ready without actually setting it up. Am I missing something here?

Chances are the previous owner had their cables run through but may have retracted them. You might want to check the other lower box to see if you can spot the end of that black cord. If it's a coaxial cable and easy to access, you might get lucky. For power, though, you would likely need to open up some drywall to run the wires through.
If it's an external wall, you might be dealing with a fire break, which is often the case. You’ll need to drill through that to get your cord through. A 'fish stick' can help with that; it’s a flexible drill bit that lets you pull the wires through. You attach your cords to the end of it and guide them back down once you've drilled through.
