I just built some cedar lamp posts and plan to finish them with spar varnish (Total Boat Gleam) to prevent the wood from turning gray. I'm wondering if that's sufficient to deter carpenter bees, or if there's a special additive or top coat I should consider using. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

One great way to keep carpenter bees away is by offering them an alternative home. Building a carpenter bee motel can really help! They’re actually pretty easy to make and direct the bees away from your projects. It's about coexisting with them rather than constantly trying to repel them!
Totally agree! It’s all about finding ways to live alongside them.
You might also want to consider setting up a carpenter bee trap. They’re designed to catch bees without harming them, and they work pretty well if you’re facing a more serious invasion!
I had no idea such a thing existed! Sounds like a fun project.
