How can I reduce heat loss from a large portrait window?

I have a big portrait window along with a standard window in my room, and I believe this might be why my room is feeling the coldest in winter and hottest in summer. I'm looking for effective ways to reduce heat loss through this window. I've seen suggestions to use blackout curtains, but I'm wondering how much of a difference they really make. Any advice?

It sounds like your window might need to be replaced or at least resealed. If the window wasn't installed with the HVAC system sizing in mind, it could be causing more problems than just temperature discomfort. While insulated curtains can help, they might just be masking a bigger issue that needs fixing.

Absolutely! I upgraded my windows a few years back and noticed a huge difference. I had an old and a new window side by side during the upgrade, and the new one blocked way more heat compared to the old.

You should definitely check for any gaps in the window trim, as those can really let the cold air in or heat out. Sealing up those gaps can make a noticeable difference!
