How Can I Remove Tree Stumps from My Garden?

I'm in the process of transforming my front garden into a stoned driveway. I've removed two trees but I'm struggling to get the stumps out. I really can't afford a grinder. I'm planning to lay down weed fabric and decorative stones over the area. If I cut the stumps down to ground level, will putting fabric and stones over them stop the trees from growing back? I'm a complete beginner, so any tips would be super helpful!

It really depends on the type of trees you have. A quick fix is to drill holes into the stumps and fill them with rock salt before covering them up. This can help kill any roots left behind and prevent regrowth.

I tackled something similar by digging the stumps out entirely with a pickaxe. Start by digging a trench all around the stumps and keep watering it to soften the ground. It's tough work but once you get started, it can really pay off! Just be prepared for some heavy lifting!
