How Can I Repair a Door After a Lockout Incident?

So, my husband had to kick in my daughter's door because she accidentally locked herself in (she's only 1, no big fuss). Now there's a chunk of wood missing from the edge near the doorknob. The good news is that the doorknob and latch are still working fine. I'm looking for a way to fix or patch this without having to replace the whole door. If only I could share a picture!

If you still have the bit of wood that broke off, you could just glue it back into place. But if it’s gone, bondo works well for painted doors. If yours is stained, consider getting a repair patch. It's a pretty straightforward fix!

I don’t have the piece anymore, but I’ll definitely check out bondo. Any tips on how to apply it?

For a quick fix next time, remember that most interior door locks have a way to be opened from the outside, usually through a small hole where you can use a pin or screwdriver to unlock it. That could save some trouble!

That’s good to know, but I had a weird knob that didn’t have that option. It's one of those random replacements the previous owners did.
