How Can I Repair Small Hail Damage to My Siding?

Asked By CuriousCactus47 On

After a recent hail storm, I've ended up with about 10 holes in my home's siding, with the biggest being the size of a nickel. I've spoken to several contractors, but they all suggest a full siding and roof replacement, which seems excessive given the relatively small damage. I'm wondering if there are DIY approaches or home improvement methods I could use to fix these holes and prevent any issues with water or air leaks. Should I continue looking for a different contractor who may offer a less drastic solution? Any advice would be appreciated!

First off, check what kind of siding you have! For vinyl siding, you might be able to patch the holes with replacement pieces, but matching the color can be tricky since they fade over time. If it’s just a few holes, you could consider some DIY repairs with adhesive and extra vinyl. However, if it's visible and bothersome, you might want to get a pro to handle it for a smoother finish. Also, don't overlook the possibility of insurance; calling your provider could lead to coverage for damages depending on your deductible.

Good point about insurance! I had a similar situation where hail damage cost me just my deductible for a whole roof replacement. It's definitely worth exploring, especially if you've got damage on the roof too!
