I'm looking to repurpose an old laptop screen as an external monitor, but I want to avoid using an external 12V power brick. I've seen options that draw power directly from devices they're connected to, like this one I found, and I want to do something similar. I understand I need a controller, and I can manage that part, but I'm unsure how to power the screen without needing a separate power supply. Has anyone successfully done this, or does anyone have insights on what I might need to consider?

Check out this video! It covers exactly what you're trying to do: repurpose a laptop screen without a bulky power brick. If you find the right controller board for your screen, that should solve most of your problems. Good luck with your project! [Video Link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrqdHVeBkp4)

Wow, it’s surprising I didn’t stumble upon that video in my search! I'm mainly doing this for fun, as I got a laptop that can't upgrade to Windows 11 and I don't need it anymore. I thought it might be cool to use the screen for my gaming laptop instead!
