How can I rethread a hole for a different size grub screw on my fridge door handle?

I'm trying to secure my fridge door handle which originally used two grub screws, but one is missing. I can't find a replacement grub screw at my local hardware stores or on Amazon because my fridge is almost 20 years old. The remaining screw fits a 3/32" Allen key, but I bought a few grub screws that fit the diameter and they don't match the thread pitch. So, I was thinking about rethreading the existing hole to fit a different screw size. Has anyone done this before and can share some advice?

You’ll want to look for a tap to rethread that hole. Since it sounds like the handle might have a metal insert, make sure there’s enough metal thickness to accommodate a larger grub screw. Just select a grub screw slightly bigger than the current size, and you can tap the existing threads. Don’t forget to apply some oil to make the cutting smoother!

That's a good point! And since the handle is actually metal, that opens up your options a bit. If it doesn't work out, consider using a small bolt that fits through the hole with a nut to hold it in place. That could be a sturdy alternative!
