Hey everyone! I'm really in a bind here. My beloved peace lily, which I've cared for over the last 8 years, is on the verge of dying. I had to leave it with someone for a bit, and they placed it in a humid room with direct sunlight. When I returned, all the leaves were completely dead, and there was mold in the pot. I tried watering it and waiting for any signs of life, but nothing happened, and it seemed to worsen the mold situation, so I ended up cutting off all the dead leaves down to the base. I replanted it in fresh soil and used some root hormone on it, and I've noticed the roots and base still seem alive. I really love this plant and am desperate for any advice on how to save it! Please be gentle with your suggestions—I've already tried a few things that didn't work, and I'm feeling pretty emotional about it.

I'm really sorry to hear about your plant! First, make sure the pot has good drainage because that can really help prevent further mold issues. Give your peace lily some time to recover—after your TLC, I suggest fertilizing it every other time you water. Oh, and don't forget to lightly spritz the leaves weekly to help with humidity while it bounces back!
Consider mixing in some orchid bark or perlite to your soil for better drainage. When I water my peace lily, I go until I see water draining from the bottom, then let it sit to drain out any excess water. They can handle drying out a bit between waterings too. For the spritzing, I just lightly spray the leaves whenever I water—optional but definitely helps!
I feel you—I've killed my peace lily a bunch of times too! It took me three years of repotting and cutting it down to nubs before I finally figured out how to care for it properly. Just be patient, and it’ll come back with time!
Thanks for the reassurance! I'm curious, how did you manage to avoid mold after cutting it back? And how did you know how much water to give it?

Thanks for the advice! The pot drains well, but I’m just not sure how much water it needs. I put in 6 oz once and it stayed too wet, so I swapped out the soil. Should I just stick to misting for now?
