How Can I Safely Eradicate Trees of Heaven Without Damaging My Neighbor’s Tree?

I've got a problem with a bunch of young Trees of Heaven in my rented backyard (they're about 2-4 years old) that are growing like crazy. They've started attracting tons of lanternflies that create a sticky honeydew mess non-stop. To make things worse, my native plants are suffering because of these trees.

I've never used an herbicide before, but the advice I got was to try Stump Out. I picked some up, but now I'm worried about using it, as it might end up killing the older parent tree in my neighbor's yard. That tree has been there for over 15 years, and I definitely don't want to cause any damage to my neighbor's property. If it means the chemicals could affect their tree, I'll need to look for another removal method. So, will using Stump Out on my young trees harm my neighbor's tree through the roots?

Stump Out isn't really an herbicide; it's more for breaking down dead tree stumps quickly, and honestly, it's not very effective. If you have your landlord's okay to modify the backyard, you could cut the Trees of Heaven down and then paint glyphosate on the stumps weekly to kill them off and prevent regrowth. That approach should keep it localized to your yard and won't affect your neighbor's tree.

Thanks for clearing that up! This is my first garden venture, so I'm learning as I go. I got the green light from my landlord to do what I want outside, so I'll give this a try. I can’t wait to tackle the jungle this weekend!
