I've got this old fire alarm that makes a buzzing noise randomly, which really scares my kids. It has a static red light on the front, so I'm not sure if it's still working. Here are my questions: 1. How can I tell if it's functioning properly? 2. Is there a way to replace it? I've tried pulling out the white plastic tab, but it's stuck—couldn't get it out even with pliers. 3. To get rid of that old alarm, the first step is to pull out the tab you mentioned. Remember, these alarms should be replaced every 10 years, so it’s good to do it now. If you get a new wired alarm, it will come with a new tab that has wire nuts to help with the installation.
Thanks for the tip! Should I try to keep the tab while removing it? It feels really jammed, and I might have to break it to get it out.
