Hey everyone! I'm considering setting up a plant stall outside my house to sell off some extra plants since they've been slow to sell. The problem is, my front door is pretty far from the road, and I'm worried about theft—like, I left some free plants out recently, and someone snatched the whole tray! I could really use some advice on how to set up an honesty box or anything else to ensure my plants and money don't get stolen. Any ideas?

I had a ton of extra plants once and just put them out on a table with a sign that said 'Free Plants, Help Yourself'. I didn’t worry about who took them, as long as they were being used. I had my partner post about it in our local community group, which brought in some people, but yeah, someone did come and take a lot! If you want to go for the honesty box route, make sure it's super secure, or you might end up seeing it at a garage sale!
If you live in a low-crime area, go for it! If not, maybe consider donating to local schools or community gardens. I’ve done that before, and it feels good, plus it saves the hassle of worrying about theft. There are often local plant swaps or community sales that could work too. Just be cautious where you set it up!
You really need to think about your area. If your neighborhood has foot traffic, there's a chance someone might grab the plants or the cash. Plus, if they aren’t selling at your shop, why would passersby be interested? Just a tip: some plants are more popular in different seasons, so it might help to check that out!
