I planted alliums for the first time this year, thinking they'd be safe from slugs since everyone says slugs usually avoid onion family plants. But guess what? My alliums have been completely destroyed by them! I'd prefer not to use slug pellets because I want to keep my garden organic. I've tried to promote wildlife that eats slugs, but even the hedgehogs and birds aren't making a difference. I've just bought some grazers spray; I'm hopeful it'll help, but right now, it feels like a slug party in my garden! Any suggestions for organic ways to tackle this slug issue?

I feel your pain! My plants also took a serious beating this year. I agree that a lot of the common advice about what slugs won't eat seems to be off. I tried the garlic wash too, and it just didn’t work for me. I'm going all-natural and trying to trap them instead. A beer trap works well—that’s actually how I’ve managed to save some of my plants.
I totally get your frustration! Last year was a slug nightmare for me too, but thankfully this year I've managed to keep mine intact. Have you thought about using nematodes? They can be super effective against slugs without harming other wildlife.
I’ve had some luck with putting nasturtiums and marigolds around my vulnerable plants; slugs go crazy for them. It’s a bit of a trade-off, but it can help keep them off your alliums. Plus, they’re pretty!
For me, nematodes have worked wonders this year! Just remember, you’ve got to reapply them every six weeks, which can add up cost-wise. But worth it for the health of your plants!
Beer traps are a classic! They definitely attract slugs. I also go out at night with a flashlight and pick them off by hand. It's a bit gross, but it really does help!
