I have a huge hydrangea in my overly overgrown garden filled with weeds and plants. We're planning to clean it up, but I really don't want to just dig it out since it's such a beautiful plant. I've heard that you can take cuttings to propagate it instead. Is this a good way to preserve the plant while still clearing the garden? Any other suggestions on what I can do with it?

It's best to take cuttings in late summer when the plant is in its prime. If you're willing to prune it back hard, you can also think about donating it to a charity garden. It would be a shame to just throw away such a lovely plant!
You might want to consider offering cuttings on Facebook Marketplace or in local community groups. It's a great way to let others enjoy your hydrangea and keeps the plant alive! If you're okay with it, you could also offer the whole plant for pickup in the autumn. Just a thought!
You could prune it back after the flowers have faded and relocate it to a better spot in the spring. That way, you keep the beauty without sacrificing space in your garden!

Definitely a good idea! Helping out a charity is a win-win!
