How Can I Secure Insulation Panels in My Garage Door?

Asked By ChillPineapple23 On

I put insulation panels in my garage door quickly last winter because it was getting really cold, especially at night. I used T-Rex tape to hold them in place, and it worked until the humidity rose above 90% in April. Now, some panels are starting to fall down. I'm considering stronger options like clips or double-sided tape, reinforced with T-Rex tape around the edges. I want to avoid using liquid nails since it would make future replacements difficult. I'm looking for any suggestions or ideas to better secure these panels!

I've been in your shoes! It's tricky getting those rigid foam panels to stay. I switched to reflective foil panels made specifically for garage doors and filled the gaps with a light layer of fiberglass insulation. I secured everything with screws and washers to keep it stable, and it made a huge difference in sound and temperature! If you tape the seams of the panels, that helps too.

The panels are all in (I cut them to size) and have been okay for about 6 months. I have two stubborn ones that won't stay in, but I figured if I'm securing those 2, I might as well secure them all.

I'd recommend trying Loctite PL-300! Just add a small dab in each corner and one in the middle of each panel. Tape might not hold up as well over time, especially with humidity.

Yeah, it's looking like I'll be doing this.

Have you thought about using baling wire? It’s simple and can really hold those panels in place!

Love this idea, simple and didn't think of it at all.
