How Can I Secure My Garden Hose Without Turning Off the Water?

Asked By NatureLover42 On

I'm looking for a way to secure my garden hose to the outdoor spigot without having to turn off the water. I want to keep the hose accessible for potential grassfires, especially since I've had a couple of fires in the lot next door. However, I'm worried about someone stealing my hose. Most of the solutions I've found require a key that shuts off water flow, which isn't what I want. Any ideas on products or methods that can help?

If you want maximum security, solder the hose directly to the spigot. It'll be tough to remove, but make sure you’re okay with that if you ever need to detach it!

Interesting point! Would the soldering process make it difficult to unscrew later?

You could try cranking it down tight with channel locks and slathering some silicone grease on it. This won't stop a determined thief with tools, but it should deter opportunistic ones. Alternatively, consider using quick connect fittings; you can quickly attach and remove the hose when needed.

Red notices from the city? Sounds like they've got serious issues over there!

The channel lock idea sounds solid, I might try that too!

Install a backflow preventer with a setscrew that locks to the spigot. Just attach your hose to that, and the thief would have no way of getting it off. You can also safety-wire everything to discourage tampering. If you need to detach it later, just use acetone to soften up the glue you might use to secure it!

Check out this locking hose guard I found online (https://buythehoseguard.com/). It's designed specifically for keeping hoses secure without needing to shut off the water. Might be exactly what you need!
