Hey everyone! I'm currently working on a carving that's going to feature a ball inside a cage-like structure, which has 8 ribs. The ribs form the corners and the centers of the square facades. I'm hoping to free the ball very soon since it's just about there! The wood I'm using is quite tough (it's Azobé), and I'm using a rotary tool for the carving. So my question is: what are your best tips for shaping the ball perfectly round while keeping it secure? Any advice would be appreciated!

If I were you, once you get the ball free, try to secure it with some hot glue or tape. This will let you hold it in place while you gradually shape it. It’s what I did with my octopus carving, and it worked out well!
It might also help to get a picture of your setup. That way, we can give you more tailored advice based on what you're up against!
