I just bought a pretty unattractive house located on a lovely street in a northeast beach town. My plan is to eventually add an extension in a couple of years, but I need some immediate suggestions for improving the exterior appearance in the meantime. The first photo shows the side of the house, which is where the parking is and where you'll enter through the kitchen. The second photo captures the front of the house, which won't be used as much but does face the street. The side door is painted purple and is where the hot water heater is located, while the ugly silver stack above it is nonfunctional, leftover from a heating system that's been taken out. Thankfully, both the roof and siding are still in good condition. I want to avoid any structural changes right now, but I'm open to everything else—landscaping, painting, woodwork, etc. I could really use some creative ideas because I can't stand looking at this house in its current state for the next few years, and I'm sure the neighbors must feel the same way!

First off, I would definitely suggest painting over that yellow—it’s quite an eyesore! Check out photos of similar house styles online or even take a drive around your neighborhood for inspiration. You might find colors or designs that really appeal to you!
Totally agree, that yellow is rough! Personally, I think I'd prefer it over the purple door, though... it's a bit much.
