How Can I Stay Comfortable Working in My Hot Garage?

I'm working from my garage in Texas where the temperatures often hit close to 100°F. It gets really uncomfortable and I'm struggling to stay out there for long. What solutions do you all use to keep hot workspaces cool? Do you rely on fans, portable AC units, or something else? I want to keep working but the heat is becoming unbearable!

Honestly, I just cope with it. In my shop, only the office has AC, while the rest is all about open doors and fans. It’s been a really humid summer though, so I work in the cooler parts of the day or after 8 PM. You get used to the heat eventually! Just stay hydrated!

I've faced over 100°F days as well. With the low humidity here, I just open the doors and use floor fans. It helps create airflow and it's manageable. I have two fans aimed toward the open garage door for a breeze, so definitely give that a shot!

I've got two floor fans too! Pointing them toward the door should definitely help.

I recently added a mini split AC to my garage and it's been a game changer! I wish I'd done it sooner. Just ensure your garage is insulated properly first; it makes a big difference. If you're worried about dust, you might want to consider how that will affect the unit before installation. This setup really keeps things nice and cool for me!

Does the mini split unit get really dusty? I have a fully insulated shop but I'm curious about maintenance.

Is it portable? Can I take it with me if I move? I've only used window ACs before.

It really depends on the size and insulation of your garage. I use a Whynter portable AC in my 24x24 garage. It’s not super insulated but adding more insulation made it more bearable. Pair it with some fans for the best results!

If you want to work comfortably, you can either insulate and air condition or ensure good airflow. Open your garage doors and use fans strategically. Also, don’t forget the attic space above your garage; better insulation there helps a lot! I've been through various setups in Texas, and insulation has been crucial for comfort.
