How Can I Stop Cats from Digging Up My Seedlings?

I've been battling with a cat that's determined to dig up my seedlings. After spending two days setting up a garden bed and planting about 20 new plants, I noticed that this cat, which I know frequents my flower beds, has taken a liking to them—leaving behind a rather unpleasant gift of cat poop. Despite my attempts to use cut brambles as a barrier, the cat seems unfazed. I've only managed to keep two plants alive. What are some effective ways you've used to deter cats from ruining your garden?

I struggle with cats and even foxes, and I found that sprinkling chilli powder helps keep them at bay. The only downside is it washes away after rain, so you have to reapply it often. It's worth a try though!

I'm definitely going to give that a shot!

I recently dealt with the same cat problem. Using used coffee grounds seems to be working wonders for me. The strong scent seems to deter them quite effectively.

That's interesting! I'm thinking about mixing coffee grounds with chilli powder for extra deterrence.

I've had a similar issue and nothing seemed to work until I started using little bamboo stakes. I cut dried bamboo into short, sharp points and spaced them around my garden. It created a barrier that made it uncomfortable for the cat to dig without getting poked. It worked like a charm last summer and I haven't seen a single cat in my garden since!

I used bamboo skewers too! They were effective but my cat found another spot in my flowerpot to do its business. I ended up covering the earth with beach stones to keep it away.

Bamboo spikes are legit! They really do work!
